The story
The Diablo followed the Miura and the Countach as Lamborghini’s flagship, wearing Gandini-styled bodywork with jackknife doors. Its 48-valve, four-cam V-12 grew from 5.2 to 5.7 liters, raising output from 420 to 485 hp and torque from 369 to 428 lb-ft, sent through a five-speed manual.
On the Nardò test track Car and Driver clocked the Diablo at 204 mph and called it the first production car to crack the 200-mph barrier in its testing. Despite its 3,520 pounds it reached 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds at 123 mph. The price as tested was $233,610.
